The market for energy-efficient buildings is growing rapidly worldwide. This increases the demand for quality-assured, highly energy-efficient building components as they are a key factor for the successful implementation of highly-energy efficient buildings.
The Passive House Institute offers an independet assessment of the energy-efficiency of components with reliable performance values. Upon request, the Institute experts also advise manufacturers on how to optimise the thermal qualities of their building products. The Passive House Institute certifies energy-efficient components, thereby ensuring that the criteria for efficiency, comfort and hygiene are met in the following categories:
The latest update to the Passive House certification criteria for transparent components introduces a new opportunity: certified windows can now demonstrate their suitability for step-by-step EnerPHit retrofits.
The EnerPHit assessment is currently available for cool temperate and warm temperate climate zones, offering clear guidance and reliable performance data for each stage of the retrofit.
Already certified or considering certification? Send us an email to add EnerPHit retrofit suitability to your products.
Product optimisation and consulting
The component certification team is happy to support you with personalised consulting and simulations in your efforts to energetically and economically optimise your products. Thanks to our extensive knowledge of the high-energy-efficiency building sector, we can point out specific gaps and potential in the current market and thus facilitate your access to this building sector.
Your benefits:
Unique selling point and reliability
The Passive House Institute's "Certified Component" seal is a trustworthy, internationally recognised quality mark that helps you make your products stand out in a highly competitive market.
Enhanced visibility
All building components certified by the Passive House Institute are published in the online component database together with their key performance values. They are also integrated into the PHPP tool, which means that building designers can easily select certified components and quickly import the required performance values into their energy balancing calculations.
Ideal integration
By certifying your components, you give building designers, constructors and project developers the certainty that your products can be seamlessly integrated into Passive House projects as they fulfil the desired energy efficiency targets.
Please follow the guidelines for the use of logos, seals and plaques issued by the Passive House Institute.

Reliability
Certified components have been thoroughly tested and assessed by the experienced engineers at the Passive House Institute. This ensures that you can rely on the accuracy and consistency of important performance values such as thermal transmittance, airtightness and hygiene when designing your building projects. Hence, using certified components makes energy balancing more reliable and less time-consuming.
Product variety
Over 1,000 certified Passive House components are currently available. They are listed in the online component database and their performance values can be easily imported into energy balancing calculations in the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) tool.
Project support: special situations and combinations
During the design stage, we recommend that you first have a look at the components listed in the component database. If you do not find the component you need, we are happy to offer our advice and upon request, we can also create PHPP data input sheets for other components. For example, this is possible for special building components whose characteristic values have to be determined in a 3D simulation or for combinations of components (e.g., balcony system with door exit, window shading system, etc.).

The "Component Award" recognises innovative, sustainable building components as well as strong performance values. It highlights products and technologies that enhance a building's energy efficiency, thermal comfort and durability.
Energy-efficient building components and construction systems are a key part of solutions for a sustainable energy future. The Passive House Institute presents various awards for the building envelope in order to show how building components with the necessary energy efficiency labelling, installation solutions or whole construction systems enable sustainable, energy-efficient construction. Find out more about the different awards for building components.
