Pass­ive House com­pon­ents

Component database

The mar­ket for en­ergy-ef­fi­cient build­ings is grow­ing rap­idly world­wide. This in­creases the de­mand for qual­ity-as­sured, highly en­ergy-ef­fi­cient build­ing com­pon­ents as they are a key factor for the suc­cess­ful im­ple­ment­a­tion of highly-en­ergy ef­fi­cient build­ings.

The Pass­ive House In­sti­tu­te of­fers an in­de­pen­det as­sess­ment of the en­ergy-ef­fi­ciency of com­pon­ents with re­li­able per­form­ance val­ues. Upon re­quest, the In­sti­tu­te ex­perts also ad­vise man­u­fac­tur­ers on how to op­tim­ise the thermal qual­it­ies of their build­ing products. The Pass­ive House In­sti­tu­te cer­ti­fies en­ergy-ef­fi­cient com­pon­ents, thereby en­sur­ing that the cri­ter­ia for ef­fi­ciency, com­fort and hy­giene are met in the fol­low­ing cat­egor­ies:

  • Build­ing ser­vices (HVAC)

  • Trans­par­ent build­ing en­vel­ope

  • Build­ing sys­tems and com­pon­ents

Win­ners will be an­nounced in April!

We are de­lighted that we re­ceived so many in­ter­est­ing sub­mis­sions for the Com­pon­ent Award 2026. The aim of the com­pet­i­tion is to identi­fy min­im­ally in­vas­ive and time-sav­ing solu­tions for step-by-step ret­ro­fits with Pass­ive House win­dows.

The award jury is cur­rently as­sess­ing all sub­mis­sions with re­gard to their (1) en­ergy ef­fi­ciency (2) in­stall­a­tion time and de­gree of pre­fab­ric­a­tion as well as (3) their prac­tic­al­ity. Join us for the fest­ive award ce­re­mony at the 28th International Passive House Conference in Es­sen on 24-25 April!

The Pass­ive House In­sti­tu­te's "Cer­ti­fied Com­pon­ent" seal is a trust­worthy, in­ter­na­tion­ally re­cog­nised qual­ity mark that helps you make your products stand out in a highly com­pet­it­ive mar­ket.

 

En­hanced vis­ib­il­ity

All build­ing com­pon­ents cer­ti­fied by the Pass­ive House In­sti­tu­te are pub­lished in the on­line com­pon­ent data­base to­geth­er with their key per­form­ance val­ues. They are also in­teg­rated in­to the PHPP tool, mean­ing that build­ing de­sign­ers can eas­ily se­lect cer­ti­fied com­pon­ents and quickly im­port the re­quired per­form­ance val­ues in­to their en­ergy bal­an­cing cal­cu­la­tions.

By cer­ti­fy­ing your com­pon­ents, you give build­ing de­sign­ers, con­struct­ors and pro­ject de­ve­lopers the cer­tainty that your products can be seam­lessly in­teg­rated in­to Pass­ive House pro­jects as they ful­fil the de­sired en­ergy ef­fi­ciency tar­gets.

The com­pon­ent cer­ti­fic­a­tion team is happy to sup­port you with per­son­al­ised con­sult­ing and sim­u­la­tions in your ef­forts to en­er­get­ic­ally and eco­nom­ic­ally op­tim­ise your products. Thanks to our ex­tens­ive know­ledge of the high-en­ergy-ef­fi­ciency build­ing sec­tor, we can point out spe­cif­ic gaps and po­ten­tial in the cur­rent mar­ket and thus fa­cil­it­ate your ac­cess to this build­ing sec­tor.

Re­li­ab­il­ity

Cer­ti­fied com­pon­ents have been thor­oughly tested and as­sessed by the ex­per­i­en­ced en­gin­eers at the Pass­ive House In­sti­tu­te. This en­sures that you can rely on the ac­cur­acy and con­sist­en­cy of im­port­ant per­form­ance val­ues such as thermal trans­mit­tance, air­tight­ness and hy­giene when design­ing your build­ing pro­jects. Hence, us­ing cer­ti­fied com­pon­ents makes en­ergy bal­an­cing more re­li­able and less time-con­sum­ing.

 

Product vari­ety

Over 1,000 cer­ti­fied Pass­ive House com­pon­ents are cur­rently avail­able. They are lis­ted in the on­line com­pon­ent data­base and their per­form­ance val­ues can be eas­ily im­por­ted in­to en­ergy bal­an­cing cal­cu­la­tions in the PHPP tool.

 

Pro­ject sup­port: spe­cial situ­ations and com­bin­a­tions

Dur­ing the design stage, we re­com­mend that you first have a look at the com­pon­ents lis­ted in the component database. If you do not find the com­pon­ent you need, we are happy to of­fer our ad­vice and upon re­quest, we can also cre­ate PHPP data in­put sheets for oth­er com­pon­ents. For ex­ample, this is pos­sible for spe­cial build­ing com­pon­ents whose char­ac­ter­ist­ic val­ues have to be de­term­in­ed in a 3D sim­u­la­tion or for com­bin­a­tions of com­pon­ents (e.g., bal­cony sys­tem with door exit, win­dow shad­ing sys­tem, etc.).
